Spring 2013: Kayyam fabric and wallpaper
Kayyam fabric and wallpaper, designed by Emma Shipley for Osborne & Little.
Emma’s design inspiration comes from patterns in nature, their innate irregularity and the mathematical structures behind them. Emma explains that for the Osborne & Little Kayyam design she took inspiration from the classic trailing textile patterns of the Arts and Crafts movement and botanical studies by John James Audubon, “I twisted these references with my signature surreal touches, creating curious birds and animalistic foliage in a half-imagined world.”
The original design was all hand-drawn in graphite pencil, which has been carefully replicated in the fabric and wallpaper designs. The result is a thoroughly modern design with a resonance of heritage.
Osborne & Little have always been a supporter of new designers, so we were delighted that Emma had in 2010 been awarded the Osborne & Little Scholarship by the Royal College of Art.
